Canned Octopus in Olive Oil Sauce

Spain-based food manufacturer, Thenaisie-Provote, S.A., has a series of canned octopus products.

There are several flavors sure to please everyone, including Olive Oil (pictured here), Vegetable Oil, Fancy Sauce, Marinade Sauce, and Garlic Sauce.

I'm not totally certain, but it appears each can contains one whole octopus (probably small octopus). I derive this from the fact that their line of canned squid is tagged as "pieces", while the octopus line is not.

Nothing like pulling out a sucker-legged sea creature and sliding it down your throat. Mmmmm, oh yeah!

The Simpsons Cookies

Consumers in Spain have now available to them mini cookies shaped like the characters of the TV series The Simpsons.

Called "Minis Simpsons", and manufactured by Grupo Siro, the cookies are said to be high in vitamins and minerals.

According to the company's website, they can be eaten as they are, or poured into a bowl with milk and eaten like cereal.

Johnny Rockets Adds New Chicken Wings

Lake Forest, CA-based Johnny Rockets, a popular, retro style diner, has rolled out a new menu item called "Rocket Wings".

It's a boneless version of chicken wings packed with all of the spicy flavor of traditional wings.

Available only for a limited time (January 2 through March 5), it's served up with crisp carrots, celery, and a choice of dipping sauce (blue cheese or ranch dressing). Customers can order up their choice of 6 pieces or 10 pieces.

Jimmy Dean Skillets

Jimmy Dean Skillets is the newest breakfast offering Jimmy Dean. It contains a mixture of meat, potatoes, and veggies to create those "skillet" style breakfast dishes you find at roadside restaurants.

Available in three varieties, "Ham", "Sausage", and "Southwest Style", you supply the skillet and eggs, and Jimmy Dean supplies the rest. Just mix it up, burn it for 10 minutes, and it's done.

Too bad they don't throw in a bag of country gravy and shredded cheese.

You can find them in the frozen breakfast section of your grocer's freezer.

Checkers & Rally's Drive-In Offers New Fries

Checkers Drive-In Restaurants today announced a new line up of "loaded fries" on a limited time offer, available at participating Checkers and Rally's Drive In locations.

Guests who order up some french fries can opt to have them topped with Bacon Cheddar, Chili Cheese, or Bacon Cheddar Ranch.

Available only until February 12, 2006, the loaded fries start at $1.99 with fully loaded fries priced at $2.29.

Freshen-Up Gum

No, this isn't a new one. My grandmother always gave my brother and I Freshen-Up gum when we were kids and I hadn't seen it in years. Then at a gas station in the middle of nowhere there it was right along side the more common gum varieties.

There are many candies and gums that we all remember from our childhood. Diamond Studded Fruit Cake

This is an actual fruit cake that you can eat, except that it has diamonds embedded into it.

On display at the Takashimaya Department in Tokyo, Japan, it has 223 diamonds, boasting a total 170 carats. The "Diamond Christmas cake" has a price tag of 200 million yen (USD $ 1.72 million). It's a two-layer hexagonal fruit cake measuring 20 centimeters tall and 18 centimeters in diameter and covered with pink icing.

It has a one-year shelf-life, and you can eat it (after removing the diamonds).
