Lillie Belle Farms - Cayenne Caramels

Lillie Belle Farms of Jacksonville, OR, took the top honors of the 2008 Scovie Awards for its "Cayenne Caramels", in the candy division.

Cayenne Caramels are described as a semi-liquid center packed with full cayenne pepper flavor and encased in a dark organic chocolate shell.

The Scovie Awards is a promotion of the National Fiery Foods Show. It's named after James Scoville who devised a measuring system for registering how spicy-hot foods are.

Caramel Apple Sugar Babies

Tootsie, who now owns the old Nabisco Sugar Daddy/Sugar Babies line is introducing a new product to their happy family.

Caramel Apple Sugar Babies will come out this fall. They feature the traditional Sugar Babies' milk caramel center with an apple flavored candy coating.

They should be hitting the shelves this fall just in time for county fairs and of course Halloween. Look for them in the 5 ounce movie boxes at first.

Mrs. Freshley's Cake n' Candy Bar

Flowers Foods of Tucker, GA has a new product under their Mrs. Freshley's line of snacks, "Caramel Crunch Cake n' Candy Bar".



It's a chocolate cake with caramel filling, a chocolate coating with little crunchies on top. It comes in a 2.1oz wrapper and the company says it has a shelf-life of 45 days.

Cranberry Bog Frogs

Cranberry Bog Frogs is perhaps an iteration on the popular Chocolate Turtle, except these are supposed to be a chocolatey homage to the frogs that inhabit the cranberry bogs of Cape Cod.

A product of Cape Cod Provisions LLC, these bite-sized morsels take a mixture of caramel, dried cranberries, and sliced almonds, shaped into something that might possibly have an amphibious resemblence, and then covered from head to toe in chocolate. Finally, each piece is garnished with a dried cranberry on top.

Taste

These are certainly yummy.

The first taste that hits you is an overwhelming chocolate and caramel combo. You can't really taste much of the cranberries at all. You can, however, feel and taste something fruity inside, but if you didn't know what fruit it was, you'd more likely guess it was raisin.

I'm not much of a chocolate expert, so I can't say if the chocolate is of premium quality or not. As a junk-food-aholic, perhaps it doesn't matter. It's chocolate.

Quality

Overall, there's something in this that tells me the quality is average. Nothing really strikes me as being of high quality.

There's just enough sliced almonds present to give it just enough crunch.

The caramel doesn't really stick to your teeth or mouth, that's a plus for me. Also, it doesn't have an overwhelming sweet taste.

Overall

These Cranberry Bog Frogs definitely have a "snackability" factor to them. I found myself wanting to stuff these things down one after another. But at a cost of $2.49 for a three-piece package, you probably don't want to do so.

I wouldn't put these on my shopping list, but if I happened to see them at a store, I'd probably pick up another three-piece package.

Newman's Own Caramel Cups

Newman's Own Organics, Inc., which makes the "Newman's Own" brand of organic snack foods, added a new Caramel variety to its line of Chocolate Cups.

Everything in a Newman's Own Chocolate Cup is supposed to made from purely organic ingredients. The chocolate is made of organic cacao originating from small farmers in the Talamanca region of Costa Rica.

The new Caramel Cups actually includes two types, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate.

Goody2Chews - Caramel

Goody2Chews is now available in a new Caramel variety.

The Caramel variety actually replaces the previous Butterscotch variety.

Goody2Chews are bite-sized squares of fruits, almonds, and whey protein. They're coated with one of three varieties, caramel, chocolate, and yogurt.

The snacks are gluten free, trans fats free, cholestrol free, high in fiber, and high in iron. They're supposed to be a chewy and tasty alternative to the plain old granola and energy bars.
