Rex's Outrageous Road Crew Crunch

Rex's Outrageous Road Crew Crunch is an interesting snack blend that comes in four varieties - Asphalt (Dark Chocolate), Gravel (White Chocolate), Mud (Milk Chocolate) and Sand (Peanut Butter). The mix contains peanuts, pretzels and Chex cereal coated in chocolate or peanut butter. Rex's claims the Road Crew Crunch is a "celebration of rural roads and the crews that maintain them".

Muhammad Ali Launches Snack Food Company

The heavyweight champion boxer who claimed to "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee" launched his own snack food and beverage company called, "GOAT Food & Beverage Company".

GOAT (which stands for Greatest Of All Time), was meant to provide kids with healthy options over the standard fare of potato chips, candies, and sodas.

The new company, a partnership with Muhammad Ali and brand inventor Peter Arnell, is partnering with Mars Incorporated and its innovative Health and Nutrition group to produce reduced calorie foods and beverages said to feature fruit laden rolls and finger foods baked in vaguely signature shapes like boxing gloves and punching bags, and to be offered in flavors like barbecued chicken, buffalo wings, sweet corn, and cole slaw.

Due to be released in early 2007 is the company's first line of snacks, the "Shuffle Snack", a mix of shapes, colors and textures, containing only 35 fat calories compared to 111 for a comparable portion of potato chips. It'll be targeted toward young adults, 16 to 24 year olds. The snack is intended to be eaten throughout the day, in seven "rounds", with "round" five being late in the day when people may need a vitamin-rich pick-me-up.

Fisher Fusions Snack Mix

John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc., which makes the Fisher brand of nut mixes, recently introduce a new line of snack mix called "Fisher Fusions".

They're described as being "culturally inspired" mix of nuts and snacks, in a variety of combinations.

• Asian Spice is a combination of rice crackers, peanuts, wasabi peas, almonds, chili stix, corn nuggets, and cashews.



• Cheddar Crunch is a blend of sugar glazed peanuts, corn sticks, pretzels, sesame sticks, peanuts and cheddar crackers.



• Trail Blazer is a mix of raisins, peanuts, cashews and milk chocolate candy.



• Sweet Harvest is a blend of honey roasted peanuts, raisins, frosted walnuts, cashews and cranberries.



• Martini Mix is a combination of peanuts, cashews, almonds, walnuts and olives. (Olives in a snack mix?)

Reese's Snacksters

Reese's Snacksters is a new product from Hershey Co. representing its effort to gain presence in the snack food aisles of grocery stores.

It's kinda like Chex Mix, containing cereal puffs, peanut butter chips, cereal squares, and Reese's Pieces.

The package is labeled, "Wholesome fun - 0 grams trans fat".

It's sold in a 2.4 oz. bag priced at 99 cents.

Skeet & Ike's Natural Snack Mix

Canadian-based Ike Enterprises Inc., the makers of the Skeet & Ike brand of natural snack foods, introduced a new line of trail mixes.

Like a lot of other trail mixes these days, the Skeet & Ike brand is touted as being free of artificial colors, flavors, hydrogenated oils, fat, MSG, adn GMO ingredients.

Varieties include...

General Mills is introducing a new variety of Chex Mix, called, "Select Chex Fruit and Nut Snack Mix".

It's described as yogurt covered Chex, with blends of real fruit and nuts.

Varieties include "Apple Cinnamon with Walnuts", and "Tropical with Almonds".

Glico Cratz Pretzels & Almonds

Japanese-food maker Glico has introduced a new snack called, "Cratz - Pretzel & Almond".

It's a mixture of pretzel chunks and whole almonds. It's marketed as an accompaniment with beer.

Varieties include Cheddar Cheese, Pepper Bacon (pictured), and Arabiki Mustard. The mustard variety happens to be flavored with chicken and vegetables.

There's a funny television commercial that shows a young guy and girl eating some Cratz, with their heads turning into an older beer drinker.

Rainforest Cacao Chocolate

New from Garden of Life, Inc. comes Rainforest Cacao Chocolate, under their Living Foods brand.

It's basically trail mix, but using roasted, cracked cacao beans.

One variety combines the cacao beans with macadamia nuts. The other variety combines it with raisins and coconut.

Garden of Life says they buy freshly picked cacao beans at a fairly traded price from small family farms in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Then they ferment the beans to bring out their rich chocolate taste. Finally, they sun dry, slowly roast, coarsely crack, and sweeten the beans with a touch of sugar cane syrup.

You can eat them right out of the box, or sprinkle it on ice cream.

Chinese-based Hongteng Peanut Co., Ltd. introduced new "Soynuts Crunch" in the USA.

They're marketed under the Tiger Soy brand name and are available in a Lime & Chile variety. The Soy Nuts are baked, all natural and free of GMO.
