Quizno's New Sammies

The Quizno's sandwich chain announced today the official launch of their new "Sammies" line of flat-bread sandwiches.

Quizno's Sammies
Priced at just $2.00 each, they're designed to be a lighter alternative for your weekday lunching, both easier on your wallet, and easier on your calorie intake.

If you thought Quizno's was already a healthier alternative to the burger, think again. With some sandwiches exceeding 2,000 calories, exceeding 100 grams of fat, and exceeding 4,000 mg of sodium, Quizno's is truly a junk food junkie's paradise. Not only can you clog your arteries and raise your blood pressure, you can make your momma happy by telling her you're eating a sandwich!

But don't worry, Sammies won't make you a health food nut. At just $2.00 each, you can afford to eat TWO!

On a side note, take a look at Ken Kuhl's recent blog post about Quizno's. It seems the company just recently disclosed their nutritional data, probably because they're trying to play the diet angle like Subway...

McRib Sandwich Makes a Brief Comeback

McRib SandwichMcDonald's today announced that its McRib Sandwich will be brought back for a limited time.

The company announced last year that it would discontinue the sandwich. But due to popular demand, they're bringing it back. The company has created a "McRib Farewell Tour II" campaign to accompany this limited time occasion.

The tour starts October 30, 2006, but only at select McDonald's restaurants throughout the USA. Once the tour is over, the McRib Sandwich will be retired forever, according to McDonalds. However, they also launched a special website containing a petition to prevent permanent retirement: http://www.mcrib.com

Apparently, the National Pork Board is getting in on this campaign. Jeff Pigott, director of foodservice marketing for NPB says...
The National Pork Board is pleased to be associated with McDonald's and in celebrating the return of the McRib. The McRib sandwich is a great way to get consumers excited about pork and all its benefits.
Oh come on now! A guy named Pigott working for the National Pork Board?

Wendy's Makes Chicken Even Hotter

Wendy'sWendy's International Inc. announced today that it plans to offer customers who order a Spicy Chicken Sandwich the opportunity to spice it up with a slice of pepper jack cheese.

The offer is running now for a limited time at most all Wendy's locations.

The promotion is a precursor to the company's newest sandwich, "4-Alarm Spicy Chicken Sandwich" which they're planning to test-market in a few areas later this month.

The 4-Alarm Spicy Chicken Sandwich is built on the same chassis as the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, but includes the pepper jack cheese, along with sliced jalapenos, and chipotle sauce.

Wendy's is going full steam ahead with its new line of hot foul offerings after their Spicy Chicken Sandwich became one of the chain's most popular items. McDonald's tried to capture some of the success with its Spicy McChicken, but failed and eventually pulled the item off their menu. Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich has become so popular that people have posted recipes online trying to duplicate the same taste.

The trend towards spicy sandwiches is getting hotter all the time, as evidenced by such new entries like Carl's Jr. new Jalapeno Burger, White Castle's Chipotle Chicken Sandwich, and Red Robin's Chili Chili Cheeseburger.
