Big Sky Brands Inc., which owns the licensed product line of Jones Candies, extended the line with a new Energy Booster variety.

"Jones Activated Energy Boosters", are mint candies in a 30-piece, oblong shaped tin. They contain energy boosting ingredients of Taurine, Vitamins B6 & B12. One tin full of candies is supposed to provide the same energy kick as a single bottle of Jones Energy Soda.

Cacao Nibbles

A company called Sonrisa Chocolates, based out of Arlington, VA is now offering a new line of confectionery called "Cacao Nibbles".

They're cacao nibs with added fruit, nuts, and cocoa butter. Varieties include...

• Blueberry Lavender Plum


• Apricot Cranberry


• Date Coconut


• Mango Apple

Each variety is presented in a sealed, round 5 oz. clear plastic tub flagged, "All-natural - No sulphites or preservatives added - Gluten-free - A natural source of antioxidants."

The company is headed by Laura Graves who developed the product line. She had led a career in marketing when she decided to pursue the entrepreneurial path. She got her start by making high-end chocolate truffles and selling them local farmers' markets. Chips Ahoy Big & Soft

Nabisco's Chips Ahoy! brand of cookies has just gone soft in a big way. They've launched a new line of cookies called, "Big & Soft".

They're kinda like the Chips Ahoy versions of Grandma's Cookies, being the same exact size (78g over two cookies per package).

Perry's Ice Cream - New Flavors

Perry's Ice Cream has introduced some new flavors under their "light" variety of ice cream...

• Light Cappuccino Fudge - light cappuccino ice cream with swirls of cappuccino fudge and fudge chunks

Pesticide-Free Sunflower Seeds

Eco-Farms Ltd. based out of Manitoba, Canada, offers a line of pesticide-free sunflower seeds.

They're now being made available to stores in the USA.

They come in two varieties, "Seasoned" and "Salted". I'm not sure what seasonings are in the Seasoned variety. Package text claims that they're grown using no chemical insecticide, herbicide, or fungicide sprays, and that they're exclusively grown on their own family farm.

Mrs. Freshley's Cake n' Candy Bar

Flowers Foods of Tucker, GA has a new product under their Mrs. Freshley's line of snacks, "Caramel Crunch Cake n' Candy Bar".



It's a chocolate cake with caramel filling, a chocolate coating with little crunchies on top. It comes in a 2.1oz wrapper and the company says it has a shelf-life of 45 days.

Burger King Under Fire in Britain

Burger King came under fire recently in the UK after launching a new advertising campaign for its Double Whopper with Cheese burger.

The campaign asks the question, "Are you man enough?", and shows a guy exiting a high-price restaurant and rejecting "chick food". The whole commercial is played using Helen Reddy's hit song, "I am Woman" but replacing "woman" with "man".

A nutrition advocacy group called, "Sustain" filed a complaint with a government watchdog...

Sustain has written to the Advertising Standards Authority claiming that the Double Whopper adverts breach the industry code by promoting "excessive consumption".

"This kind of advert shows the food industry cannot be trusted to regulate itself," added Mr Watts. "If the Government is serious about defusing the health time bomb of obesity, they need to end adverts for this kind of product before the 9pm watershed."

I disagree. The advert shows a man who claims to have such a big hunger, and requires so much more energy, that he needs a big meal. It's not excessive consumption.

Mint Chip Ice Cream at Carl's Jr and Hardees

Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurants announced they'll be offering a line of Mint Chip Ice Cream shakes and malts beginning November 15.

The new flavor features real, hand-scooped vanilla ice cream, mint syrup, chocolate flakes and real milk blended to order, and is topped with whipped cream. A scoop of malt powder can be added for a classic malt taste. The shakes and malts sell for $2.99 at most company-owned restaurants.

"We are confident that our Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shakes and Malts are the best in fast food because they're made the old-fashioned way, with real ice cream and milk and blended by hand," says Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Carl's Jr. and Hardee's. "And the new Mint Chip flavor is the perfect addition for the holiday season."

York Mints - In a Tin

Information I've received says that Hershey's, which owns the York Peppermint Pattie line, is planning to extend the line with York Mints, breath mints in a tin.
