Perry's Ice Cream - New Flavors

Perry's Ice Cream has introduced some new flavors under their "light" variety of ice cream...

• Light Cappuccino Fudge - light cappuccino ice cream with swirls of cappuccino fudge and fudge chunks


• Light Neapolitan - vanilla, chocolate, strawberry


• Light Peach Cobbler - light peach ice cream with peach-cinnamon-nutmeg swirls, peach pieces and cinnamon pie crust pieces


• Light Peanut Butter Cup - light chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls

All but the Peach Cobbler variety are said to be gluten free. Perry's "Light" line of ice creams offers 1/2 the fat of their normal line.

Perry's Ice Cream is distributed to grocery stores in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and the New England area.

Pesticide-Free Sunflower Seeds

Eco-Farms Ltd. based out of Manitoba, Canada, offers a line of pesticide-free sunflower seeds.

They're now being made available to stores in the USA.

They come in two varieties, "Seasoned" and "Salted". I'm not sure what seasonings are in the Seasoned variety. Package text claims that they're grown using no chemical insecticide, herbicide, or fungicide sprays, and that they're exclusively grown on their own family farm.

They come in resealable 5.5 oz. stand-up bags. The suggested retail price is $1.49 each.

Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps

The Snack Factory has a new flavor coming out in their line of Pretzel Crisps.

"Honey Mustard & Onion" is the fourth flavor in the line of pretzel-based crackers, accompany the existing Original, Garlic and Everything Crisps.

Pretzel Crisps are oven baked, ultra-thin and OU Pareve. Both sides are coated with flavoring and are billed as low fat with 110 calories per serving.

Mrs. Freshley's Cake n' Candy Bar

Flowers Foods of Tucker, GA has a new product under their Mrs. Freshley's line of snacks, "Caramel Crunch Cake n' Candy Bar".



It's a chocolate cake with caramel filling, a chocolate coating with little crunchies on top. It comes in a 2.1oz wrapper and the company says it has a shelf-life of 45 days.

Burger King Under Fire in Britain

Burger King came under fire recently in the UK after launching a new advertising campaign for its Double Whopper with Cheese burger.

The campaign asks the question, "Are you man enough?", and shows a guy exiting a high-price restaurant and rejecting "chick food". The whole commercial is played using Helen Reddy's hit song, "I am Woman" but replacing "woman" with "man".

A nutrition advocacy group called, "Sustain" filed a complaint with a government watchdog...

Sustain has written to the Advertising Standards Authority claiming that the Double Whopper adverts breach the industry code by promoting "excessive consumption".

"This kind of advert shows the food industry cannot be trusted to regulate itself," added Mr Watts. "If the Government is serious about defusing the health time bomb of obesity, they need to end adverts for this kind of product before the 9pm watershed."

I disagree. The advert shows a man who claims to have such a big hunger, and requires so much more energy, that he needs a big meal. It's not excessive consumption.

Mint Chip Ice Cream at Carl's Jr and Hardees

Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurants announced they'll be offering a line of Mint Chip Ice Cream shakes and malts beginning November 15.

The new flavor features real, hand-scooped vanilla ice cream, mint syrup, chocolate flakes and real milk blended to order, and is topped with whipped cream. A scoop of malt powder can be added for a classic malt taste. The shakes and malts sell for $2.99 at most company-owned restaurants.

"We are confident that our Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shakes and Malts are the best in fast food because they're made the old-fashioned way, with real ice cream and milk and blended by hand," says Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Carl's Jr. and Hardee's. "And the new Mint Chip flavor is the perfect addition for the holiday season."

Information I've received says that Hershey's, which owns the York Peppermint Pattie line, is planning to extend the line with York Mints, breath mints in a tin.

It's like a gourmet line of their famous potato crisp.

Pictured here is the "Cinnamon Sweet Potato Crisp", which they describe as follows...

Chocolate Fudge Covered Peanut Butter Pretzel Sandwiches

If the name alone isn't a mouthful, this new munchie from Snyder's of Hanover certainly is.

New "Chocolate Fudge Covered Peanut Butter Pretzel Sandwiches" are pretty much what the name says. Synder's takes creamy peanut butter, sandwiches it between two pretzels, dips it in smooth melted Chocolate Fudge, and then tops it off with a fine chocolate fudge drizzle.

The company has several other varieties of pretzel sandwiches, which have become one of the company's most popular products.

Sour Patch Extreme

Cadbury Adams USA apparently took extreme measures with their line of Sour Patch candy.



"Sour Patch Extreme" is described on the label as "2 super sour flavors in one". Varieties include "Sour Apple/Strawberry", "Orange/Blue Raspberry" and "Watermelon/Grape".

I haven't tried any Sour Patch Extremes, so I don't know exactly how extreme these are. My sense is that the "extreme" name takes its cue from the mixing of fruit flavors.

These apparently have been on the market since at least last Summer, perhaps longer.
