Sausage Is Our New Friend

New from DRG-Handel GmbH, comes "Olli - Dein Freund fuer unterwegs", which translated means, "Olli, your friend on-the-go".

It's a Fleischwurst sausage sold in a ring for gimmicky presentation. The sausage contains 40 percent beef and 24.4g fat (which is about half of what competing wursts contain). Moreover, the company says the product can remain unchilled for up to 2 months.

But the reason why its our new friend on-the-go, is because it has an easy open design. Based on what I can tell from the product's website (with help from Google Translate), you break the string that connects the ends, and it opens up one of the ends. You squeeze the weenie at one end, and squirms out the other.

It's Olli! Our squeezy-squirmy sausage friend.

Flavored Toothpicks

I haven't seen flavored toothpicks in a long time!

I remember when I was a kid, and our family would go out to eat, I would always get a toothpick from the cashier's counter just to see if it was a flavored toothpick.

Seems like these days, restaurants don't offer them anymore.

So when I saw news that Recycline Inc. is now offering a line of flavored toothpicks, I had to mention it here.

Preserve Flavored Toothpicks comes in two different flavors, Cinnamint (flavored with cinnamon, peppermint, wintergreen and clove), and Mint Tea Tree (peppermint, spearmint and tea tree flavor).

Organic All Natural Junk Food

This new cheddar cheese product caught my attention for what's described as "Sharp Organic Grass Fed Cheddar Cheese".

The label goes on to say that it contains zero carbohydrates and is "made with organic milk from grass-fed cows carefully aged to the peak of flavor."

So what is "carefully aged"? The cows, the milk, or the cheese?

But this concept of taking a food product that's normally high in salt and fat, and billing it with health food labels like "natural", "organic" and "whole", is silly to me. It's like repackaging a potato chip as "fat free", "all natural", and made from "organically grown" potatoes.

I just find this clash between the health food angel, and the junk food devil, to produce some interesting products and labels.

Heinz Spaghetti Bolognese

It wasn't so much the thought of canned spaghetti bolognese that caused me to write this, but the fact that the can depicts the tomato-ey noodles on what looks something like melba toast.

Heinz Spaghetti Bolognese is a product of Heinz Australia. Is this how they eat spaghetti down under? Or is this what inspires them to dig into canned MREs?

I suppose product presentation is always something peculiar to look at. First of all, it's always misrepresentative of the actual product. No hamburger ever looks as good as it's depicted. But others still are out of touch of reality.

Have any of you seen the can of soup, in which the label shows a spoon holding a mound of chunky clam chowder, but the underside of the spoon is shiny and clean? How do you pick up soup with a spoon while keeping the underside totally clean?

Or what about that Nestle Dancow powdered milk that shows a kid smiling in approval? Does that really happen?

Oh Boy! Oberto's New "Beef Jerky Crisps"

Cripsy beef jerky??

That's effectively what it is. Oh Boy! Oberto introduced a new beef jerky product called, "Beef Jerky Crisps".

The company claims it bridges the gap between beef jerky and traditional snack chips, providing a "best of both worlds" experience. It's supposed to provide us with a meat flavored chip.

But they don't say what it's made of. I don't have the product here in front of me, so I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Oh Boy! Oberto was supposed to have rolled this out nationwide in September.

Green Tea Wafers

New Jersey based N-Star Import and Export LLC., has introduced "Cocofun Green Tea Wafers" into the US and Canada.

I imagine this is something you might see in those japanese and korean food shops. I know love cream filled wafers! My mom used to buy them when I was a kid, and I could scarf through 'em in minutes.

I guess green tea flavored filling would be a hit here, since it seems to be getting into everything else.

These wafers are said to be made in South Korea, and are low in sugar. They're presented in a 2-count foil wrapper, and sold in a 6-count, 90g box. The package copy identifies them as "Delicious and nutritious crispy wafers with green tea & mulberry leaves."

Shearer's New Buffalo Wing Blue Cheese Potato Chips

Shearer's Food Inc. recently launched three new flavors of potato chips...

Buffalo Wing Blue Cheese Potato Chips - I love spicy hot buffalo wings, and they're not bad with blue cheese dressing, though I prefer ranch. I'd probably like the same on a potato chip, but I have my doubts you can get the same experience from powder. I'd rather dip my potato chips in buffalo sauce and blue cheese, you know, kinda like when a basket of wings touches the french fries, and you drip blue cheese on them? - That's yummy!

Sweet Wasabi Potato Chips - This sounds pretty good. I could probably get into this real easy.

Wavy Ketchup and Fries - Just your garden variety potato chip with ketchup seasoning.

Shearer's says the three new flavors are trans-fat free, and are kosher.

New Root Beer Energy Drink

Lazy root beer drinkers are reveling in their new found energy now that Quixtar, Inc. launched the root beer version of their XS Energy Drink line.

The new productivity-boosting elixir is said to contain no sugar, no carbohydrates, no fats, and contains only eight measly little calories. So how are root beer lovers supposed to get their lazy butts off the couch? Well, it contains 100% of the recommended daily allowance of four energy packed B vitamins, B6, B12, B3 and B5.

The company presents the new flavor in a limited-edition "Krakoosh can" featuring the artwork of Steven Chew and is said to embody the spirit of the West, cowboys, snowboarding and back country assaults.

Sheer Bliss Pomegranate Bar

Seems like the biggest thing in fruit flavors these days is pomegranate.

So it makes sense that a company called Sheer Bliss Ice Cream, LLC, is marketing an ice cream bar called "Pomegranate Bar".

It's pomegranate flavored ice cream in a chocolate shell. It's part of Sheer Bliss' line of chocolate and pomegrante flavored ice creams, with pomegranate flavoring coming from POM Wonderful, the company that seemed to start the pomegranate craze with its line of juices.

Each box contains three bars, and are thus far selling in stores in the greater Los Angeles and New York areas.

Salami for Bikers

The next time a biker chick asks to grab a hold of your salami, hand her one of these.

The new "Biker-Salami" is a German product sold under the Redlefsen Kurven Beisser name. It's targeted towards motorcycle riders, described as mini salami sticks that provide a hearty snack for bikers on tour. The 25g salami sticks are presented in 2-count packs that feature retro-style graphics of cartoon women on motorcycles.

The hard part is finding them here in the States. You'll probably have to special order them from your local German deli.
