HB 282 will revoke the health department license of any restaurant, fast-food or otherwise, if it serves food to anyone who meets the department's criteria as being, "obese".
As the bill states...
Any food establishment to which this section applies shall not be allowed to serve food to any person who is obese, based on criteria prescribed by the State Department of Health after consultation with the Mississippi Council on Obesity Prevention and Management established under Section 41-101-1 or its successor.
The bill will require the State Department of Health to distribute materials to restaurants that will define what an obese person is.
Imagine going to a Subway, who claims to help you lose weight by eating their sandwiches, and having a "sandwich artist" tell you, "Sorry but your ass is TOO FAT!"
And in Mississippi, such a law could put every restaurant out of business.

What about those with medical conditions that make them overweight? How about pregnant women who probably will be considered overweight by their standards. This is going way too far.
In other news - Obese people roit and pilage local chinese restaurant; Eat all in sight.

Well we now know that NAZIism is alive and well. The people of Mississippi should immediately vote these NAZI B@!*%#d Food Cops out of office. If the Nazi Food Cops come knocking on my door, they had better fear for their life.
I've been lobbying state congresses with my own bill. In summary, the only answer is to deport or kill the fatties and those dastardly smokers. I mean, how dare they exist in the same world as decent folks? Lets throw the asymmetrical and the ugly in there, too. Also, the elderly. The terminally ill. I'm sick of them. So, so sick of them.

Note that many professional athletes have BMI of 30 or more - no more sports will be played in Mississippi.

Anyway they just want to make the fatties thinner for their health but this isn't really the way and will never be passed. Never.

It underscores the need for a "New Texas" amendment to the constitution (cf H. Beam Piper and H.L. Menken). Lawmakers wouldn't pull stupids like this if we could legally drag them behind the woodshed for the butt-whipping Daddy never gave them.
The Mississippi Board of Tourism would love to learn that you are spending your vacation dollars elsewhere thanks to this bill.
This does also make the presumption that everything served in the restaurant is inherently unhealthy, that there are no non-fattening selections, or that overweight people are incapable of selecting an "approved" meal. (Who gets to approve? At what point do they start messing with what restaurants are allowed to serve?)
What about the fatties who want to go out to lunch with their friends, but intend to eat only a salad and a Diet Coke?
What about people who have successfully lost weight, meet the criteria, and then choose to have four hot fudge sundaes for lunch?
How about banning alcoholics from bars? (Or would that hit the politicians too hard).
This is insane. Instead of isolating people with weight problems lets educate them. We have become the laziest people in the World. Get up and change the tv instead of using the remote. Walk into the gas station and pay for your gas instead of paying at the pump. Go outside to play a game instead of sitting in front of the tv doing so.
We should also consider that no one NEEDS to upsize at the drive thru. Regular size is plenty.
So much for the "Free Country" theory.
If they want to tell people what they can and can not eat they should pay for it. "Health" food is more expensive than nearly any other food you can get. Also, if their concern is with the health of over weight people then make it cheaper for them to get help. Gym memberships are too expensive as are nutrition planning devices. Here is a better idea... Take every child born and ditch them in a concentration camp and starve them until they are what people want to look at then set them free. Puppies, kittens, babies, cars, houses.. The bigger they are the cuter they are but take something stupid like a living breathing human being and if they are not your image of perfection then they are punished. Punished by being picked on in schools (sometimes to the point of killing themselves) then being told how to live. Once we are all the same.. then what?

Because we ALL KNOW that all obese people just sit around doing nothing all day eating junk, right?
According to my BMI I'm obese yet I'm very healthy! I'm pregnant right now and had to have lots of blood tests because of my BMI *eyeroll* and imagine the shock when my results showed I'm just as healthy as ms skinnypants over there.. heck maybe healthier!
I hate the stereotypes out there! I eat healthy and at the right times. I exercise.. heck I don't even OWN a car! I walk, or bike everywhere (yes even pregnant). My apartment has no elevator and we live on the top floor!
Some people just are big and it's not their fault.

Although ironically I'm 6 mos pregnant and still -5lbs on the scale LOL I guess I'm blessed with a nice metabolism while pregnant. I pray it stays!!

I'm from Mississippi, I'm from a middle class white family, I have a sister who married a black man, I have a great job with a national corporation, and I fit none of the stereotypes mentioned in these comments. I've never even heard of this bill, and I follow the news closely. And I've never met anyone in the KKK...or know of KKK chapters in our state. The people of Mississippi have tried very hard to get past that image, but I guess some stereotypes just never die.
The bill is so damn stupid!!! Those who authored the bill ought to be mads outcasts for the rest of their lives!! People who are fat due to various factors like metabolism or any other than gluttony. Every human being deserves all respect!!! NO DISCRIMINATION!!!!!! Those legislators are conservatives-that is the sad fact-cold blooded people!!
