Jayone Foods, Inc. recently launched a new brand of snacks under the "Sea's Gift" brand. These are pieces of seaweed leaves, roasted in sesame oil, and flavored.
The product is available in three varieties...
- Authentic Korean Seaweed - roasted in sesame oil, and lightly salted
- Korean Sweet Seaweed - roasted in sesame oil, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and lightly sweetened with organic sugar
- Korean Crispy Kelp Snack - lightly sweetened with malt syrup and organic sugar
- Korean Chewy Kelp Snack - a jelly type kelp snack with an "amusing texture", lightly sweetened with malt syrup and organic sugar
I have just discovered the roasted, salted variety (all I've seen locally) and think it's great! I've always liked the taste of seaweed, but the roasting and salting gives this stuff a very light, crispy texture and a different, even nicer flavor than the plain nori with which sushi eaters are familiar.
ReplyDeleteI will admit, however, that seaweed seems to be something you love or hate. If you don't care for the taste of fish, don't bother. If you like fish and seafood in general, give it a try if you can find it. Seaweed is extremely healthful, and a new snack option for dieters.
i LOVE this snack! Sweet & salty yum!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these snacks. They're addictive. But I wish they'd make larger packages; I always feel guilty about buying things with such wasteful packaging. Heck, I eat 3 packages at a sitting -- at least!
ReplyDeleteThe Roasted Seaweed Snack is top shelf. I am in love with this great snack. I'll echo the other person and say I wish they came in bigger packages.
ReplyDeleteI too became quickly addicted to the sweet nori version, though the packaging drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteThe roasted version is ok, but there are better versions in the local korean grocery.
I haven't seen the other two versions at my WFM yet, but I will keep looking for it.
i bet roasted is great.
ReplyDeleteI had a Huge pile of deep fried seaweed in London two years ago and it was too much. A little bit to snack on would be perfect.
Me and my 6 year LOVE them!! They need a bigger package of them!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff...but the packaging is terrible. That's why I now go for Seasnax, it's similar but I think better tasting and you get a lot with minimal packaging!! They're not in many stores but they do have a website.
ReplyDeleteBuy them by the case (24 packets for $18 minus 10% discount). Can be bought at Wholefoods and every so often the case goes on sale for $14.50 minus 10%. Great buy!.
ReplyDeletejust discovered these snacks today & i love it! take the sweet variety, sprinkle over a big bowl of hot rice with some avocado, soy sauce, & sriracha hot sauce...DELICIOUS!
ReplyDeleteI'm a seasnax convert. Their toasty onion flavor is to die for!!!
