For all you V8 juice drinkers, what do you do to spice up your V8?While I consider myself a junk food junkie, I do like V8. I've been drinking the stuff since I was a kid, and can't seem to stop. I've tried the spicy V8, and V8 Fusion, and the Low Sodium V8. I like them all.
So today, as I reached into the refrigerator to grab a bottle of V8, I noticed the jar of Ortega salsa. And then, a question popped into my head, "What if...?"
So I pulled the salsa out of the refrigerator as well, and dropped three spoonfuls of salsa into the V8 bottle. The bottle was about 2/3 full at the time. Then I shook the bottle thoroughly, and took a swig.
Ummm, not bad.
It's like salsa-flavored V8, just like what you'd expect, but with chunks thrown in.
I'm not sure I'd stick with this however. While it's not bad, I don't think it'll sell.
So I'm thinking now, what else can I do to doctor up my V8? Lemon juice? Tabasco sauce? Pickled jalapeno juice?
If you like to experiment with your V8, let me know what you've found that tastes good.
Worcestershire sauce is the best, followed by chilli sauce (sweet or hot, either is good), in my opinion!

ReplyDeletetry a small bottle of clam juice, its good trust me.
ReplyDeleteSome Pico Pica sauce, (it's not chunky) followed by a hefty squeeze of fresh lime. Stir.
ReplyDeleteAdd Tabasco sauce, worsestershire, maggi, lemon juice, lots of salt and voila!!
ReplyDeleteBeer
ReplyDeleteyou could simply use ortega's taco sauce to eliminate the chunk-aliciousness...clamato is a tomato clam juice bev. ...also Id try a lil soy sauce or even some lime juice or a little cumin and seas salt for a bit of a chili taste.
ReplyDeleteVodka, worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, pepper, a little tabasco.
ReplyDeleteGarnished with a celery stick, olive and lime wedge.
I made that up myself.
horseradish.
ReplyDeleteA few things I've used that are good. Celery Salt, Dill or Spicy Dill Slice and/or juice, Green Olives and/or juice, 1 drop Dave's Insanity Sauce makes it very spicy but great for sipping.
ReplyDeletedrain a can of rotel thru a pasta strainer. pour a 46 oz. bottle of v8 in a 2 qt sealable pitcher add the juice from the rotel, bit of lemon juice. good stuff
ReplyDeleteI like low sodium V8 the best. When I want an extra taste of salt, I like to sprinkle a handful of Seapoint Farms lightly salted dry roasted edamame into the V8 juice. The edamame floats, it's crunchy and it tastes very good with the V8.
ReplyDeleteI put in a spoonful of cayenne pepper and some basil...yum! Also, Trader Joe's brand low sodium Garden Juice is tastier than V8 and is a lot less salty.
ReplyDeleteTry the low sodium v-8. My favourite recipe kind of defeats the whole low-sodium thing, though.
ReplyDeleteSalt the rim of the glass using Club House brand Caesar Rim (is this a U.S. forum? For you Yanks, a Caesar is sort of like a Bloody Mary but made using Clamato juice - I'm not sure if a Bloody Mary has a salted rim) Then, the "piece de la resistance" - three or four healthy sized squirts of lime juice into the V8, stir and savour!
Wow lots of good ideas here!
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of lemon juice... i'll probably due that one later today
ReplyDeleteI just add a lot of tabasco with ice. Stir and it normally comes out ok. Don't put in too much or else it just gets painful
I love the spicy V8 but the sodium will make anyone bloat up... So, I buy the low sodium and pour in a couple tablespoons of my jalapeƱo juice from my jar of sliced jalapeƱos and mix it up. It is sooo good! I will drink a cup of it before I eat dinner or lunch..I get fuller faster. :)
ReplyDeleteChili powder, chopped onion and 3 beef bullion cubes... tasty
ReplyDeleteStart with V8 low sodium. Add liberal amounts of Tobasco sauce, a hint of turmeric, and a good squeezin' of fresh lemon juice. Very tasty and healthy ...
