Information I've received says that Hershey's, which owns the York Peppermint Pattie line, is planning to extend the line with York Mints, breath mints in a tin.Here's supposedly a photo of what it looks like.

There on sale at WALMART
ReplyDeleteI just bought these for my sister the other day! They're wonderful! We found them in Walmart. She loves York so got her the tin. Cost about $1.27 or something similar (I'm in Summerville, SC).

Ive seen them at the Walmart Neighborhood market grocery stores too. I regret not buying them then and there but I will go back to get some. They look different than the one pictured above too.

ReplyDeleteAnyway, they are $1.67 at my WalMart, and very tasty.
Small gumdrop-shaped jellybelly-sized drops; coated in white candy shell that melts off to a dark chocolate coating. From that point you've got a little Junior Mint in your mouth.... allow the dark chocolate coating to melt and you'll get the hit of York mintyness all at the end.
EXPENSIVE for the weight of the product, but you can eke out a lot more servings, so not too bad. Certainly they carry the classic York taste, and that's a good thing. More than I can say for those icky York Klondike ice cream bars...

ReplyDeleteHad 'em. They're little lumpy balls, white shell, thin layer of chocolate, soft mint inside. Delicious. The tin is great, too.

ReplyDeleteAlthough they're tasty, I just can't consider them a good value. For $2.00, I can get two boxes of Junior Mints, which taste just about the same.
So far Walmart is the only place I have been able to find them. They are wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're still not up anywhere on The Hershey Company site (at least not anywhere I can find!), but I've seen them for sale at Hershey's Chocolate World. Nice tin, great-tasting (if a bit expensive) candy.

They sell them at WAWA, but it would be nice, once you've bought the tin, to be able to buy them in bulk. Anyone know how?
ReplyDeleteYork Mints in a tin are FABULOUS. Been searching for more ... pricey! Other than serious research I rarely surf but here I am ... the mints are that good.
ReplyDeleteLove the mints, hate the tin! It's very hard to open, especially if you don't want to lose half the contents on the floor.
ReplyDeleteI definitely LOVE the candy and the "look" of the tin. But, I am so glad that it is not just myself that has had difficulty with opening this tasty treat. Something with a hinge might work better. If you don't get a good grip, the only thing these will touch will be the floor and not your mouth. Nobody wants that! Rock on Hershey's.
ReplyDeletethe key to open them is to slip your fingernails in between the lid and the base and slowly pry it open

Ugh, I love them, but for the tin. I've been wrestling with this tin for the last half hour. I've broken two fingernails (and they're short) and mauled the tin with a screwdriver, trying to pry it open.

It's pretty expensive, especially since they truly don't work as breath mints. They are REALLY good candy, however. So good I'll waste 30 minutes trying to get the tin open!
To open the tin press down on the top then pull off. Before replacing press on the underside of the lid and replace. convex,concave

I have been addicted to these since they first came out - 100 cal per tin and no appreciable fat - when I'm watching calories and want chocolate these are great - and the flavor stays with you. I do have trouble with the tins at times and have sent one flying. I am suffering guilty conscience pangs, though. I've gone through a lot of tins in the past 5 months and they get tossed in the trash - no recycle symbol on them. I wish I could buy them in a bag with a bunch of smaller portion sized packets within and a part of me wonders how much of the cost is for the tin.
ReplyDeleteit is not so difficult to open that. The easy way I use is to screw and up, the lip will open smoothly.

ReplyDeleteAlso, someone mentioned mint M&Ms. They do make them and sell them at Christmas and have for at least 10 years.
i just ordered an 8 pack from amazon.com for like 15 dollars shipped not sure if its a great price though why not seemed cheap enogh awaiting my order.
