Deerfield Farms Sunflower Seeds

Junk Food ReviewDeerfield Farms Sunflower SeedsI'm quite impressed with Deerfield Farms brand of sunflower seeds. Deerfield Farms is a brand owned by Walgreens. You can find them in just about any Walgreens drugs store.

The package labels these seeds as "Jumbo" and they are indeed larger than sunflower seeds from most other brands I've had, including David. The kernels inside the shells are equally as larger than other brands as well.

Flavorwise, they're fabulous! They have the same great taste that the David brand built a reputation for. I've already eaten half the bag, and still haven't found any worms. I did find a few putrid seeds, but then again that's about the same rate I get with David brand.

Interestingly, the Deerfield Farms brand shows a whopping 690mg of sodium for a 1/4 cup serving, compared to just 135mg for David brand. However, I don't really sense a saltier taste at all.

As far as fat content goes, the Deerfield Farms brand shows 7g per serving, compared to 15g for the David brand.

But here's the real kicker. The Deerfield Brand sells for a really low $1.99 per 16oz bag. The David brand will cost you $1.99 for a much smaller 5.75oz bag.

Just to make the Deerfield Farms brand even sweeter, they come in a easy-open bag, with a zip-loc seal. I haven't figured out why David brand hasn't made that switch yet.

Summary

These seeds are awesome. High quality, large size, a full one pound, for $1.99. Thumbs up!

Purchase these at any Walgreens drug store, or CLICK HERE to buy them online.

  1. These are the best I've ever tried. I was mainly a David's consumer, and I have tried other brands, until I found Deerfield's at my local Walgreens. They are BIGGER, crunchier, just the right amount of salt, and cheaper by the pound. I buy at least a bag a week, or get a few at a time to stock up. I don't buy anything else now. I happened to get a bag a week ago or so that didn't have salt, luckily I had a spare bag, and the next time I went into Walgreens they gave me a refund no questions asked. Of course I went and got two more bags!
    Thank you Deerfield Farms!!

  2. These seeds are better then any of the competition if you can even call anybody competiton to these seeds.I make everyone I know try them. The flavor is even better then getting david's ranch or nacho cheese. Like the guy said before me they are only 1.99 a bag and the bags is huge!! In the summer I go through a bag a day. Before i tried these guys I was a big fan of Beam's barbeque and jalopeno seeds. Thank you wal-greens and deerfield farms... and if you have any defected bags you cans end them my way!

  3. Hello fellow seed freaks. I thought I was the only one who appreciated Deerfield's Jumbos. Once, I discovered these I never went back to David's. The local markets here are off and on with David's Jumbo. But it doesn't matter, Davids cannot compare. I went to pick some up today and my usual Walgreen's didn't have them. Of course, the Child-Associate had no clue of what I was asking. The site link you have led me to several others in my area that supposedly have them in stock. Thanks for your help and "Seed On!"

  4. These ARE the best seeds ever BUT there seems to be a shortage. I've been to several walgreens in the area but can't find any and they are out of stock on Walgreens.com. If anyone knows where to find them please tell me!

  6. These seeds are great, the best i have ever tried. The problem is that walgreeens cannot keep them in stock. at least at my local store and 60 mile radius of my house. If they are going to keep selling them they need to keep them in stock. They get some in and the same day they are out again. Ihave complained and others need to do the same

  7. I'm a big time seeder, and I made the switch to Deerfield Sunflower Seeds over a year ago. Deerfield has the best quality and largest size of any Sunflower Seeds found on a local store shelf. Their seeds have an unmatched freshness, and the ziplock bag is genius. With Deerfields great taste at a awesome price, I would not consider switching back to David's, even if David's had a ziplock bag.

I'm very addicted to these seed, and I'm enjoying a mouthful right now :-o

  12. I started eating these seeds about a year ago. I love them. I agree the saltiness seems much less than any other seed brand. I love sunflower seeds but hate the salt. These seeds are consistently good and huge. I never really shopped at Walgreens until now, it's the only place for these seeds and I am happy to go there and get them. Keep it up, great quality.

  13. Hello seed fans! I thought I was the only one out there who thought these to be hands down the best! They are amazing. 2 for $3.00, huge seeds, superb taste much better than that of David brand. The seeds are comparibly huge as well. And, the shells don't splinter when you crack them. They come apart in 2 halves. David and all other brands splinter and they stick in your gums! Hands down these are the best seeds out there.

  15. I still enjoy Deerfields sunflower seeds. But they are not as jumbo as they were 2 years ago. I came from walmarts great value seeds untill their quality went down.

  16. Excellent in taste. I believe the salt content maybe even a little lower than David's. I maybe incorrect on that; however, the taste is still excellent.

  18. I have been eating these for about six months and have noticed a bit of a 'hangover' effect the next morning. This after eating a bag in a day/afternoon. I attribute this to ingestion of pesticide/chemical or human altered genetics. The bag is 13 oz now.

  19. These are THE BEST seeds I have ever tasted in my life! I definitely know my way around sunflower seeds, and these are absolutely off the charts! They have a wonderful hearty flavor, and are considerably less salty in taste than other brands which allows you to enjoy the rich, nuttiness that this variety of seed exudes! Awesome to the millionth power! The price is unbelieveable as well! They're well worth the $1.99, but I often find them for 2/$3.00. I grab an arm full of them every single week. They perfectly compliment my low carb/high protein diet! These seeds are a WIN WIN WIN product in every way. I always recommend them to people, and people are always just as impressed. If Walgreens ever stops selling them, or if they change the variety of seed, it will be a very dark day for me. :-)

  20. Broccoli and cabbage are the same species of plants, believe it or not, but they look so different because of genetic changes brought on by artificial selection. Really, people should stop fearing anything with the word genes in it. Read up on the subject.

  21. I am 71 years young. I have been eating sunflower seeds ever since I can remember growing up in South Dakota. I use to eat Davids, but their seeds are miniscule compared to the Deerfield. I can eat 80% of a bag in 2 hours of watching Fox news in the evening. They have it over Davids by a mile.

  22. Mediocre at best.

  23. Why did they change them?
Walgreens just changed the seeds and all you can taste now is salt. I have bought lots of seeds from them for years but I will have to change brands if they don't go back to the way they were. Does anyone know why they changed them? The Package is different too.

  24. I’m so disappointed in the new seed. They are full or salt, difficult to crack, and very small. I can’t enjoy this product after eating the Deerfield brand. It’s like going from a Cadillac to a Pinto. There’s not enough water in the ocean to drink after eating all this salt. They should name them “LITTLE SALTY SEEDS”

  25. I CAN'T BELEAVE THAT WALGREENS IS NOT SELLING MY FAVORITE DEERFIELD BRAND SUNFLOWER SEEDS IM SOOO UPSET. ALL THE OTHERS ARE TOO SALTY FOR ME!!!!!

  26. I ate Arts exclusively until I tried Deerfield. However... They changed the package, which now say Walgreens. And I've found them to be over salted. Quite disappointing. I guess it's back to ARts

  27. I e-mailed Walgreens customer complaints dept. I told them the new seeds taste like drinking salt water, they taste like they have triple the salt ( can't be good for the heart) I have tried to buy them online to no avail. Walgreens will be loosing a lot of business from me that is for sure. I will be looking for another route, I do know Win-Co foods a bulk store has some that taste almost the same however it is to far for me to go.

  28. I am so disappointed that Walgreen's has made this change. I happened along the Deerfield Seeds by accident but have not eaten any other kind since. Every time I drive by a Walgreens I run in to see if they might have a few bags left over on their shelves but no luck so far! The new seeds are small and way too salty! I hope Walgreens exec's read what their customers are saying and listen to the overwhelming cry of disappointment!

  29. Too bad they discontinued them.
The "new" Walgreen brand is NOT the same. Way too salty and much smaller!
Don't be fooled by anybody that says the Walgreen brand is the same. Whoever says that is not a sunflower lover!

  30. I too am hooked on the Deerfarm jumbo sunflower seeds. What I don't understand is why Walgreen's has discontinued the sale of these seeds on their internet site. I was buying a case at a time.

  31. Please bring them back!!!!!!!!!
They have less salt, fat, calories.
This is the only reason I go into Walgreens on a regular basis.
